2. Light's Out! All the dorm rooms have a 11:00 PM lights out policy. (Private rooms are not subject to this policy however be conscious of the light and the noise. Please don't leave the bedroom door open with the light on or talk loudly after hours etc. .) 11:00 PM at this time the lights must be physically turned out so the guest who prefer to sleep can do so peacefully. Some people have different time schedules and need to be up and somewhere early. Please be considerate of the guest who prefer to sleep early. Though lights out isn't in effect until 11:00 PM. We ask you all be kind and considerate to each other whatever time it is. This also means the guest who prefer to get up early are asked to be very conscience of those who remain with their dreams. This is called being "Akamai. " (Refer to the hawaiian dictionary link.)
3. Food, Drink, and Alcoholic beverages. At the Kauai International Hostel we provide very clean kitchen facilities with all the things you'll need to cook for your self. Please clean up immediately after your done. Wash dishes, wipe counters, stove and throw away your "Opala" (Trash). Eating areas are in the main house and common areas. No Food, Drink or Alcoholic Beverages are allowed in the dorms at any time. (we go through allot of trouble to get rid of the little critters "Roaches" we don't want to feed them). No Smoking, incense, or candles in the dorms or main house. Smoke only outside in the common areas and through your butts in the ash trey. "Don't litter". No Exceptions.... ALCOHOL!..... We don't mind if you drink, but.......DONT LET IT CHANGE YOUR KIND PERSONALITY! Don't act "belligerent", Or become a "bully" Or a pathetic, self revered, slurring "romeo". Or become short tempered or disrespectful to our staff. Or you may be asked to leave!
4. Respect the privacy of the women's dorm. Gentlemen this one's for you! Don't call into, knock or stick your head or any other part of your body inside the women's dorm. Please don't loiter in front in conversation, or hold harmonies of serenade. That's why we have coed dorms, and common areas. Think of it like our daughters room. "Kapu" (see Hawaiian dictionary). Besides, a gentleman would wait till the ladies came downstairs. Ignoring this "Kapu" is not to be tolerated.
5.Helping out in the dorms. Please clean up after your selfs. Wipe down floors (bathroom) and counters (toothpaste). Your "Kokua" (refer to the Hawaiian dictionary) is appreciated (If you need something to help to clean with just ask the staff) Let us know if a trash can becomes suddenly to full. The more we all pitch in the nicer this "Hale" becomes. We do maintain the dorms all week long. We're simply asking for your "Kokua".
6. Please don't sit on top of the tables. It's where we eat! Put your "Okole" (see hawaiian dictionary) on the chair or bench where it belongs. In a non-related topic. Please refrain from using "gutter mouth" talk. Profanity. Keep it to a minimum. Thanx.
7. Thievery and drug use is absolutely and unforgivably not tolerated.
Note from Maikiki General Manager: I've on an occasion become scrutinized and made to be under the fire EXCLUSIVELY by persons who who for various reasons simply didn't like first of all our policies, and most importantly didn't follow them. (You know who you are and ...I know who you are) Or persons we just couldn't seem to please! Or, that individual who insists on "stirring the pot" causing division amongst the staff and the guest. These self serving persons with their no less than cowardly attempts to damage my or this "Hale's" image through internet smearing (henceforth "Coward") are less than futile. Nice Try! Even with your attacks our ratings are great. (Allot of folks love us and the special things we're doing). So if you can, try to sleep easy! Aloha.
All this smearing is out of my control. However, what is in my control is the fact that I can guarantee one of the nicest establishments of its kind in THE WORLD! It's just nice folk's here.
Come...See...Feel... Embrace the Aloha Spirit!
Mahalo Nui Loa, Maikiki General Manager.
